Your Holiday Hotel
THE QUEENS HOTEL As you might expect, hotels in the centre of York come at a premium, especially during a major event like the St.Nicholas Fair. We are returning to the Queens Hotel, situated next to the River Ouse. Its location is perfect for exploring the City, being within a few minutes walk of most of the main historical attractions and the Christmas Market. Although it is only two-star, bedrooms are well appointed with free Wi-Fi, complimentary toiletries and tea/coffee making. There is a lift to all floors.
(DAY 1) Monday 26th November
Taxi pick-up from your home to the coach. We drive to York, arriving in the City by the end of the afternoon.
(DAY 2) Tuesday 27th November
This morning we will be joined by a guide for a gentle walking tour, providing the perfect introduction to York. We will stroll through the best of the historic streets and “Snickleways”, and climb the City Walls for some great views. One of the top attractions in York is Jorvik, and we include a visit to this Viking Centre which has recently undergone a multi-million pound re-imagining. Here you will enjoy an exciting ride through 10th century York to discover the lives of its inhabitants and to experience the sights, sounds, and even smells of the Viking age.
(DAY 3) Wednesday 28th November
We travel to Castle Howard, one of Britain’s finest stately homes. The House will be elaborately decked for the festive season, with a huge Christmas tree in the Great Hall, flamboyant floral creations and elegant decorations. There will be live music, seasonal menus in the café, and gifts and treats galore in the gift shop.
(DAY 4) Thursday 29th November
There is no coach excursion today. Meander through the stalls of the St.Nicholas Christmas Fair, wander inside traditional wooden chalets adorned with twinkling lights, and follow the aroma of mulled wine to the food court and famous Shambles Market. A short walk from the Hotel takes you to the National Railway Museum, Castle Museum, York’s Chocolate Story and Betty’s Tearoom, where you can treat yourself to lunch or a delicious afternoon tea.
(DAY 5) Friday 30th November
After breakfast we will head for home, reaching Sussex and the waiting taxis late afternoon/early evening.
