Overview

This rather unusual tour combines one of the Country’s most popular Flower Shows with a visit to the former home of our best-known steeplejack and steam enthusiast, and lunch at one of our finest Fish & Chip restaurants.

Your Holiday Hotel

You will stay for three nights, with dinner, bed and breakfast, at the Best Western Premier Hallmark Hotel near Leyland in Lancashire. There are 93 bedrooms with free Wi-Fi. You can relax and unwind in the indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. Dinner comprises three courses, with a choice for each course and tea/coffee to follow. On one evening of your stay there will be a themed Lancashire menu. A glass of wineor soft drink is included with dinner each night.

Itinerary

(DAY 1) Friday 18th August

Taxi from your home to the coach. We drive to Trentham Gardensin Staffordshire. There are various lunch venues, independent retailers and a Garden Centre. Continuing through Cheshire, we will reach our Hotel in good time to relax, and perhaps take a dip in the pool, beforedinner.

(DAY 2) Saturday 19th August

After breakfast we make our way to Southport. The Southport Flower Show, held in Victoria Park within easy walking distance of the Town Centre, is the largest independent flower show in the UK and makes a great day out. Around 50,000 visitors come to the Show every year. In addition to the show gardens and displays, created by some of the best landscapers and designers in the country, there is a food festival with displays from celebrity chefs, fine dining marquees and a shopping village with over 300 stalls. When you have seen all you want at the Show you may like to explore Southport itself, where you can wander down Lord Street under the beautiful Victorian wrought iron canopies, discover one of the oldest piers in the country, and even a visit a Lawnmower Museum!

(DAY 3) Sunday 20th August

Today we will take you for a visit to The Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre. Thefascinating former home of Britain’s best loved steeplejack, Dr Fred Dibnah MBE, has been opened to the public, and following an introductory talk you will walk around Fred’s sprawling backyard to see his steam workshop, oil-stained tools and machinery, and the 70 foot mineshaft that he built without telling the local council! At lunchtime we make our way to the centre of Bolton, home of the award-winning Olympusfish and chip restaurant. We will enjoy cod, chips and peas, served with bread and butter and followed by dessert and tea/coffee. Our final visit of the day is to the Oswaldtwistle Mills Shopping Village, a former Lancashire weaving mill, with over 100 retailers all under one roof.

(DAY 4) Monday 21st August

We travel home today, reaching Sussex for the taxis by late afternoon.
