The Severn is the longest river in the United Kingdom and flows through the beautiful countryside of Worcestershire and Shropshire onits journey from the Welsh Mountains to the Bristol Channel. On one evening there will be a talk on the history of Stourport-on-Severn, and you will have an opportunity to explore this historic Georgian town, which owes its existence to the construction of the Staffordshire & Worcester Canal in the 1760s.

Your Holiday Hotel

You will stay for three nights with dinner, bed and breakfast, at the Hallmark Hotel Stourport Manor. There are 68 comfortable bedrooms, served by lift, spacious lounge areas and 23 acres of grounds. Guests have complimentary use of the indoor swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room.

(DAY 1) Tuesday 1st August

A taxi will collect you from home and bring you to the coach to join your driver and fellow travellers. We drive through the Cotswolds for a visit to Croome Court. Step back into what remains of a secret wartime airbase and stroll through ‘Capability’ Brown’s very first landscape masterpiece. Croome was home to the Earls of Coventry and the National Trust is slowly pulling this glorious yet faded house back from the brink. We continue through the Severn Valley to our Hotel near Stourport. On arrival enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and cake whilst luggage is taken to your room.

(DAY 2) Wednesday 2nd August

After breakfast we will take a short drive to Kidderminster. Here we will transfer to the Severn Valley Railway for a nostalgic steam train ride, meandering through the Shropshire countryside alongside the River to Bridgnorth, where we will rejoin the coach. This afternoon we continue to the RAF Museum Cosford, home to over 70 aircraft and adjacent to an active airfield. We include a guided tour to bring the exhibitions to life.

(DAY 3) Thursday 3rd August

Today we travel to Shrewsbury. The town has charming black and white buildings and cobbled streets, and we will make our way to Victoria Quay to board the passenger boat Sabrina. A relaxing river cruise will take us around the picturesque River Severn loop. Aftertime for lunch we will continue to the market town of Ludlow, Shropshire’s Food and Drink Capital, before returning to the Hotel.

(DAY 4) Friday 4th August

The homeward journey takes us to pretty Stow-On-The-Woldfor a lunch stop. During the afternoon we travel through Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley, reaching Sussex at around teatime.
