This will be the third in our series of tours travelling not on one of Roadmark’s modern coaches, but by classic Southdown touring coach from the early 1960s. The holiday takes you to a beautiful part of Britain with great coastal and moorland scenery, and some very steep hills!

Travel on board a beautifully restored coach that was new to Southdown Motor Services, who used it on luxury touring holidays throughout Britain. The body was built by Harrington of Hove and has just 28 well-spaced reclining armchair seats. In its day it was considered to be the height of luxury, with large picture windows providing unparalleled views of the passing countryside. With a top speed of around 40mph this is bound to be a leisurely tour! Dating from 1963, the coach has high entrance steps and is therefore not suitable for mobility-impaired people. You can look at these magnificent vehicles at South Coast Motor Services

(DAY 1) Monday 26th June

We will make an early start, driving across Salisbury Plain and through Somerset, and reaching the pretty village of Dunster by the end of the afternoon.

(DAY 2) Tuesday 27th June

After breakfast a guided walking tour will introduce us to our ‘home’ village of Dunster, with its imposing Castle. We will then board the coach for a drive along the coast, passing pretty villages like Selworthy and Porlock, and enjoying the dramatic scenery of the North Devon coast and Exmoor National Park. We arrive in the twin towns of Lyntonand Lynmouth, with time to explore and perhaps take a ride on the unique Victorian water-powered Cliff Railway.

(DAY 3) Wednesday 28th June

A day at the seaside! We will drive to the resort of Weston Super Mare. Thetown is steeped with Victorian history. Its Grand Pier dates from 1904, was completely destroyed by a fire in 2008, and restored to its former splendour, re-opening at the end of 2010. Crosville Motor Services, based in the town, owns and operates a heritage bus fleet, and we will pay them a visit and enjoy a tour of the town on one of their superbly preserved vehicles.

(DAY 4) Thursday 29th June

Today we will take a nostalgic ride on the West Somerset Railway, England’s longest heritage railway, travelling behind one of their steam engines on the 20-mile journey between Minehead and Bishops Lydeard. Thecoach will transfer us to the county town of Taunton, with time for lunch, before we return to Dunster through more of the Exmoor National Park.

(DAY 5) Friday 30th June

We head for home today, making our way to Salisbury for a lunch stop, and arriving in Sussex for late afternoon taxis.
