For our final Warner leisure break of 2018 we travel to Littlecote House in Berkshire, a secluded 16th century mansion that was once home to Cromwellian soldiers and served as a base for paratroopers during World War II. It boasts an impressive Roman mosaic in the grounds and is said to be England’s third most haunted building, so we do not recommend this tour to anyone of a nervous disposition! We include an excursion to a top designer outlet, and visit two garden centres for some early Christmas shopping.
Your Holiday Hotel
LITTLECOTE HOUSE HOTEL Built in the mid-1500s, the grade I Tudor listed manor has played host to kings (Henry VIII courted Jane Seymour here), and queens. Bedrooms are in modern wings next to the House, and are to the usual high Warner standard, with simple décor, and crisp bedding. You will find comfy chairs, reading lights, a hairdryer and tea/coffee and biscuits. For a small supplement you can upgrade to a Signature Room featuring a larger bed with choice of pillows, and fluffy white bathrobes. The focus at Littlecote is on relaxation, fine dining, and entertainment, with a different show every night, featuring music, dancing and comedy. Leisure facilities include a heated indoor pool, sauna and steam room.
Monday - Taxi pick-up from your home to the coach. We drive to Millets Farm Centre in Oxfordshire with time for lunch and shopping. Then on through the Vale of the White Horse and the Lambourn Downs to our hotel in rural Berkshire.
Tuesday - An excursion via the Savernake Forest to the Great Western Designer Outlet near Swindon, where you will find over 100 brands all under one roof with discounts of up to 60%. If shopping is not your thing you can visit “Steam”, the fascinating Museum of the Great Western Railway (admission charge applies).
Wednesday - A day of leisure and relaxation. Enjoy all the facilities and activities on offer at Littlecote, and perhaps take a guided tour of the Historic House.
Thursday - The coach will take you to the town of Newbury, on the Kennet and Avon Canal, where Thursday is Market Day. Time for lunch before returning to the Hotel.
Friday - After breakfast we will load the luggage and depart for home, making a lunchtime stop at the Forest Lodge Garden Centre near Farnham. We meet the taxis mid-afternoon before it gets too dark.
