Itinerary

(DAY 1) Tuesday 8th August

We drive to the Somerset town of Frome where we will take a lunch break. There is a charming historic centre and a good range of small specialist shops, pubs and cafes. Around another hour brings us to our Hotel in Bristol. Enjoy a welcome tea or coffee whilst luggage is being taken to your room. Dinner each night comprises a three course buffet with 3 choices per course, plus tea/coffee.

(DAY 2) Wednesday 9th August

We make our way to The Jane Austen Centre in the World Heritage City of Bath. Anauthentic period atmosphere permeates the beautiful Georgian building with its illuminating exhibits, film displays, maps and books, all designed to show what life would have been like for Jane when she lived in Bath. Following an introductory talk you will have time to view the exhibits and visit the Regency Tea Room and Gift Shop. We then embark on a gently paced Guided Walking Tour to see some of the places mentioned in the author’s letters and novels. There will be further time to explore Bath at your own pace, and after a fascinating day we return to our hotel for dinner.

(DAY 3) Thursday 10th August

This morning we will be joined on the coach by a local guide and take a drive through the elegant suburb of Clifton, where Jane Austen used to stay with her Mother. We will visit Blaise Castle Museum. The Castle is actually a folly that was visited by the fictional characters in ‘Northanger Abbey’. Find out about the history of the House, see how people lived and worked on the Estate, and enjoy the beautiful Picture Room with its classical portico and domed glass ceiling. Our Guide will then show us some of Bristol’s major landmarks, with time to find lunch in the city Centre. This afternoon we will visit the Georgian House Museum, an 18th century six storey town house that has been restored and redecorated to its original glory.

(DAY 4) Friday 11th August

Homeward bound after breakfast. Following a lunch stop in Salisbury we will arrive in Sussex late afternoon to be met by taxis to your door.
