Itinerary

(DAY 1) Thursday 11th July

Taxi pick-up from your home to the coach to join your drivers and fellow passengers. We travel to Folkestone for the convenient Channel crossing with Eurotunnel. Driving through France and Belgium we reach our Hotel in the German city of Aachen by the end of the afternoon. Dinner is included at the Hotel this evening.

(DAY 2) Friday 12th July

After breakfast we will cross into Holland to visit Valkenburg. This charming small town is set in a landscape of gently rolling hills in the valley of the Geul River. Underground quarrying in Roman times left a series of caves which are now a visitor attraction, and from the ruined hilltop Castle you can look down on the town and surrounding countryside. After time to explore and find lunch we continue to Maastricht. It is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, and you can explore its historic buildings and churches, charming squares, city walls and merchants’ houses. Stroll alongside the canals, perhaps enjoy one of Limburg’s delicious fruit pies, and then take your seat in the Vrijthof for a swinging evening with Andre Rieu, the King of Waltz. The concert starts at 9pm so we will be late to bed tonight !

(DAY 3) Saturday 13th July

This morning enjoy the city of Aachen at your own pace. The Cathedral and main shopping centre are just a 10-15 minute walk from the Hotel. The magnificent 8th century Cathedral, located in the heart of the Old Town, is a real highlight. It is the last resting place of the Emperor Charlemagne and the coronation site of 30 German kings. This afternoon the coach will take you to Monschau. Set in the Eifel mountain region, this small town is famous for its medieval centre, with half-timbered houses and narrow cobblestone streets. Spend the afternoon admiring the pretty flowerboxes, arts and craft shops, cafes and delicate bridges along the River Rur. Later we return to our Hotel in Aachen for dinner.

(DAY 4) Sunday 14th July

This morning we drive to Bruges. You will have around three hours in which to explore the historic city centre, famous for its remarkable medieval architecture, beautiful 13th century Belfry, picturesque canals and lacemaking. Enjoy lunch in one of the many pavement cafés, take a trip on a canal boat and visit the chocolate shops for some delicious souvenirs of your visit to ‘the Venice of the North’. Later this afternoon we return to the UK through the Channel Tunnel, reaching Sussex for taxis during the middle part of the evening.
