Overview

This 17th Century house, set high on the South Downs, and rescued after a major fire in 1989, houses an elegant Georgian interior with a famous Grand Tour collection. An 18th-century dolls’ house with original contents, is one of the highlights. The complete servants’ quarters in the basement are shown as they were in Victorian days when H. G. Wells’ mother was housekeeper. The beautiful and peaceful garden is inspired by Capability Brown and Humphry Repton. The East Pavilion serves a selection of food and drink. We will leave Uppark in the early afternoon and return home via a different route, stopping on the way for coffee (cost of refreshments not included).
