Monday 20th August 2018
This morning we offer a choice of destinations: Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays, with it’s wide range of shops and restaurants or Southsea where there will be time to stroll along the promenade, with its views of the Isle of Wight, visit the town centre or perhaps visit the D-Day Museum. There are plenty of places to eat at both locations. In the afternoon we drive to Stansted Park, an Edwardian country house lying in 1800 acres of parkland. The estate was left to the Stansted Park trust by the 10th Earl of Bessborough and the state rooms are furnished as though the Earl was still at home – giving the visitor a real sense of a bygone era. The extensive Servants’ Quarters below stairs are brought to life by the very knowledgeable and friendly stewards that will guide you through the vibrant history of Stansted. There will be time to visit St.Paul’s Chapel, located in the grounds and also the Garden Centre, which includes the Pavilions Tearooms and Farm Shop.
