This morning we shall drive to the market town of Cirencester, once one of the most important places in Roman Britian, second only to London, where there will be time to find lunch. In the afternoon we drive to Rodmorton Manor – a supreme example of a house built and all of its furniture made according to Arts & Crafts ideals. This country house was one of the last to be built and furnished in the old traditional style when everything was done by hand with local stone and timber by local craftsmen. The house was described by the designer Charles Ashbee as the single best example of the Arts and Crafts movement. The gardens of the house were also created in line with the Arts and Crafts movement and is designed as a series of outdoor rooms. There are tea-rooms selling drinks and light snacks.
