Overview

Rochester has a strong Charles Dickens connection as the author spent some of his childhood in the area before returning for the last 13 years of his life. Every year since 1978 the city has held a festival to commemorate and celebrate the author with a mix of costume, music and street theatre with many people competing to be the best dressed Dickensian character.
