New Year’s Day Steam
Monday 1st January 2018
Join us for a New Year’s trip on the Mid Hants Railway, popularly known as the Watercress Line. The line gained its popular name in the days that it was used to transport locally grown watercress to markets in London. Running between Arlesford and Alton, the line survived the Beeching Axe but was eventually closed by British Rail in the 1970s. Today’s trip takes us on a steam-hauled return journey to Alton, passing through the Hampshire countryside. Prior to arrival at Arlesford we shall stop at Forest Lodge Garden Centre where there will be the opportunity to purchase lunch.
