Margate or Broadstairs

Overview

Margate has attracted visitors to its superb crescent of sand, ever since Benjamin Beale, a local Quaker and glove maker, invented the covered bathing machine in 1753. Margate is still very much a traditional seaside resort, with a funfair, long promenade, pier and floral gardens. The town is home to the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery and Dreamland. The old town rejoices in a cultural vibe – chic eateries, galleries and vintage shops mixed with traditional seaside delights. A short walk from the seafront is the Shell Grotto a subterranean  attraction made entirely of seashells. You may prefer to visit Broadstairs, favourite holiday spot of Charles Dickens and full of nostalgic old-world seaside charm.
