We drive to Bath to join the John Rennie, a purpose-built restaurant boat with oak floor, brass lights, real wood tables, a fully stocked bar, galley kitchen and toilets. The main saloon is glass sided, affording stunning views of Bath and the surrounding countryside. The cruise, lasting about four hours in total and during which you will enjoy a delicious cold buffet lunch, will take us to the Claverton Pumping Station. This amazing piece of Georgian engineering was designed to lift water into the Canal from the River Avon 50 feet below and operated from 1813 until 1952. After a guided tour we will re-join the boat, with dessert and coffee served on the return cruise to Bath.
This excursion has been arranged in conjunction with the Wey & Arun Canal Trust, who are currently restoring “London’s Lost Route to the Sea”. The fare includes a small donation towards the work of this charitable trust.
