Lavenham, in Suffolk, is one of the finest medieval villages in England. Its timber-framed buildings and beautiful church of St.Peter and St.Paul, built on the success of the wool trade, make it a fascinating place to explore today. At its heart is the Guildhall of Corpus Christi, now owned by the National Trust and free to enter for members. After time to explore Lavenham we make our way to Finchingfield, often described as the quintessential English village it has won awards for its traditional picturesque setting. The combination of duck pond, village green, hump-backed bridge and pub, overlooked by colour-washed cottages, a windmill and a medieval church, give it an unbeatable series of views, which are often found on calendars, chocolate boxes, tea towels, postcards and jigsaws. There will be time to find tea here before we set off for home.
