Overview
Compton Verney is an award-winning art gallery housed in a Grade 1 listed mansion set in 120 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown parkland. On arrival, during an introductory talk, you will learn how Compton Verney went from a stately home to derelict estate and was then rescued and transformed into the gallery you see today. The gallery is home to 6 permanent exhibitions ranging from The Chinese Collection to British Folk Art and the Naples Collection. Also open during our visit will be a fascinating exhibition entitled The Marvellous Mechanical Museum featuring a host of historic and contemporary mechanical marvels from 17th and 18th Century, regarded as the golden era of automata, as well as the whimsical creations of Rowland Emett, the set designer for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and work by contemporary automata makers and artists. There will also be time to explore the grounds and visit the Chapel, designed by Capability Brown.
