Overview

Formerly Lord Astor’s country mansion, Cliveden is a fine Italianate house and estate on the banks of the River Thames at Taplow in Berkshire. It is probably best known as the place that Christine Keeler first met government minister John Profumo in the prelude to the 1960’s scandal that took his name. Today part of the house is a luxury 5-star hotel, however we have arranged for a guided tour of the property – there will also be time to explore the gardens and perhaps solve the maze originally designed by William Waldorf Astor.  On our return journey we shall stop in the attractive town of Marlow where there will be time for tea.
