A visit to Chartwell, near Westerham in Kent, provides an insight into the domestic life of Britain’s famous wartime Prime Minister. Chartwell was Sir Winston Churchill’s family home and a place where he could escape the pressures of his public and political life. Many of the rooms in the house remain as they were in Churchill’s time, complete with daily newspapers and the famous trademark cigars. You can also explore the gardens that command unrivalled views over the Weald of Kent and see the lake, swimming pool and water garden that Sir Winston created. In the garden is his studio with many of his framed and unframed canvasses in various stages of completion. The Landmare Cafe serves a selection of hot & cold food and drink.
