Athelhampton House, originally built by Sir William Martin, is the quintessential English manor house. After becoming virtually derelict the house was restored in the 1890’s by Alfred Cart de Lafontaine, who also added the formal gardens around the same time. The Tudor Great Hall is at the heart of the house, with its linenfold paneling, heraldic stained glass, large fireplace and historic furnishings and from here
you can access the other rooms in the house which contain an outstanding collection of English furniture from Jacobean to late Victorian. There will be time to visit the gardens and, if you wish, take the short walk to the estate’s St.Edward’s Church. The house’s Topiary Restaurant serves a range of hot and cold food and drinks.
